Robert C. Schafer, 58, Bismarck, passed away July 9, 2013, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Glen Ullin.
Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a rosary/vigil service beginning at 7 p.m., also at the church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert was born Dec. 24, 1954, at Richardton, to Franz and Elizabeth (Maershbecker) Schafer. He was raised and educated in Glen Ullin, where he graduated from high school in 1973. He attended Bismarck Junior College and NDSSS in Wahpeton, graduating with a degree in HVAC and plumbing. He worked for five years at Honeywell, facility management at the North Dakota State Capital for 10 years and 21 years at Medcenter One/Sanford Health in Bismarck.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, reading and riding motorcycle but, especially spending time with his friends and family that he loved very much. He was so proud to be a grandpa.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Ryan (Lindsay), Phoenix; his fiancee, Jody Jahner, Bismarck; his brother, Douglas (Cathy), Glen Ullin; six sisters, Darlene (Jim) Myers, Coon Rapids, Minn., Doreen (Dennis) Hartman, Dickinson, Bonnie (Jerry) Kuntz, Hebron, Karen (Darrell) Goetzfried, Mandan, Joan Kinnischtzke, Glen Ullin, and Shirley (Daryl) Schwab, Everett, Wash.; his brothers-in-law, Myron Erhart and Marvin Opp, both of Glen Ullin; his grandson, Jorde; nine nieces; and eight nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Sandy Erhart and Dorothy Opp.
