Violet Mayer

JAMESTOWN -- Violet Mayer, 74, Bismarck, formerly of Jamestown, died May 4, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs Jeff Franko and Lisa Ahlness officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Streeter.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Violet Ruff was born Nov. 11, 1926, on the family farm near Fredonia, the daughter of Reinhold R. and Katharine (Gall) Ruff. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.

Violet and Melvin Mayer were married June 20, 1948, in Gackle. They made their home eight miles west of Gackle. In 1974 they moved to Jamestown and continued to reside there until 1998 when they moved to Bismarck.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Dennis Martin, Bismarck, Colette and John Thomack, Schenectady, N.Y., and Rachel and Steve Schmidt, Bismarck; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mable Mayer, Gackle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and one sister.
