Joann Rush Weis

1929 - 2017

Joann Rush Weis passed away from natural causes on September 21, 2017. She was born on June 21, 1929 in Chicago. She will forever be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother and good friend to many.
Joann graduated from Caldwell College and from Katharine Gibbs School. After teaching at St. Dominic's Academy in Jersey City, NJ she studied Shakespeare in England. After an active life raising children, teaching, and many charitable endeavors, including chairing United Way Campaigns, she and her husband Al retired to Hendersonville, NC and have lived in The Oaks since that time. Joann was a life-long learner and had a passion for travel. She and Al traveled the world and delighted in sharing their adventures with friends and family.
Joann is survived by her husband Alfred, her four children: Faith, Bill, John and Melanie and their spouses; her stepdaughter, Kathy and stepson Bill and their spouses; and by seven grandchildren, William, Stephen, Anjali, Stuart, Christopher, Jenny, and Jennifer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Our Lady of Angels Chapel of Immaculate Conception Church celebrated by Father Martin Schratz. Burial will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. this evening, Sunday at Thos. Shepherd & Son.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Joann's memory be directed to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
