Boonville - William Alan Dyer, 80, of Boonville passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Columbia Post-Acute in Columbia, Missouri.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
William Alan Dyer was born February 22, 1941, in Boonville, the son of Howard Amos Dyer and Ida Frances (Bates) Dyer. William graduated from Boonville High School in 1959 then attended the University of Missouri for four years where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He then transferred to Missouri Valley College in Marshall where he graduated in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in Marketing and Economics. William was then drafted into the US Army serving from 1966-1969 in Germany with a Hawk Missile Unit. After serving with the military, he took a job with Gulf Oil Company for two years as an auditor. Then in 1971 he started working for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in Kansas City where he worked in freight operations and retired after 30 years. William enjoyed collecting Indian arrowheads and artifacts. He also loved his pet fish. He kept many fresh water and salt water exotic fish. You could find William at the Lake of the Ozarks often with his boat, a 1957 Chris Craft inboard speed boat. He loved his boat and enjoyed spending time on the water. He often referred to himself as a "Dock Boater".
William is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Frances Dyer, brother Robert Lee Dyer, sister-in-law Janice Reed Dyer, grandparents Colonel A.B. (Martha) Bates, and Clausin (Cora) Dyer. He is survived by his brother Colonel (retired) Howard Bates Dyer of Leavenworth, Kansas, nephews Howard Reed Dyer of Carthage, Missouri, and Richard Alan Dyer of Edmond, Oklahoma, Frank Randall (Cori) Dyer of Wildwood, Missouri, niece Amber Moodie-Dyer (Joseph Smith) of Fleetwood, North Carolina, and numerous friends.
