Saryan, Armine Manoukian Was born February 11, 1921 in Talas, Asia Minor, and passed away on May 13, 2015, at her home in Thousand Oaks, California, with her children by her side. She was the fourth child of Ohannes Manoukian and Guluzar Ohanian of Gesaria (Caesarea). Both of her parents were survivors of the 1915 Armenian genocide. Armine moved with her parents in 1921 to Antelias, Lebanon, where her father taught orphans at the American Near East Relief orphanage. Armine was educated at the Jemaran (College Armenien of Beirut) where she studied language, literature, and music. After graduation, she taught for 8 years at the Jemaran, where she met her future husband, Sarkis Saryan of New York. In 1947, she arrived in the USA to continue her education and within the year married Sarkis, with whom she raised four children. The family settled in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1971 she moved with her family to Rockford, Michigan, and later retired with her husband to Cape Cod. In 2001, after 54 years of marriage, her husband passed away, and she moved to Thousand Oaks, California. She is survived by her brother Varoujan Manoukian (of New York), four children and their spouses Levon and his wife Shirley Saryan of Greenfield, Wisconsin, John and his wife Debbie Saryan of Andover, Massachusetts, Judith Saryan and her husband Victor Zarougian of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Arlene Saryan and her husband Christian Alexander of Thousand Oaks, California, and eight grandchildren: Ani Saryan, Armen Saryan, Diana and her husband Diran Balekian, Valerie Saryan, Melanie Saryan, Laura Zarougian, Garen Alexander, and Sean Alexander, and a great-grandson Jack Balekian. A wake will be held at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church in North Andover, MA, and interment at West Parish Cemetery in Andover. A memorial service in Thousand Oaks will be held at a later date to be announced.
