I love it when this pops up. It gives me the opportunity to remember Art. He was such a special man.

It’s May 19, 2021 Wednesday. Today I just learned that Arthur LaRaia passed away in 2018. Arthur worked with my company: The piano man inc of Waltham, MA for many years. He was a mentor, friend, fabulous pianist, and he could charm piano buyers more than any one we ever had on our staff. We learned to get out of his way and let him perform his magic and sell pianos. He played for Connie Francis at the Frolics in Revere Beach as I understood. Because Arthur would not travel via air plane, he stayed local in MA. He played piano in many famous Hotels in or around Boston. He also played piano at Ken’s steak house in Natick, the Copley Plaza and much more. Amazingly he did not read music but played by ear. What a gift that he had and used his talent to support his family, including his sisters, brothers: a priest, an MD, I think Boston College which was also my College.
To say that Arthur was
temperamental would be an understatement, but with that sensitivity, he could make so many people happy with music, and love piano, and piano performance and strive to hopefully learn the art of music and piano. Arthur operated his own piano store in a small building overlooking the Mass Pike on Washington Street Newton, MA. He then sold many pianos for Boston organ and piano in Natick and Newton, Boston et al thereafter he joined our piano group, and continued his career and his love of music and piano performance.
Arthur shared his recipe for his tomato sauce with me. And I can still hear Arthur saying “contacts make contracts” And his secret to a long life was: a garlic clove a day. Arthur loved and supported his family and brought a lot of happiness as well as challenges to the many of us who loved him. I often think of him and miss him and thank him for the precious time he was with us and bringing such beautiful music and happiness to so many deserving people.Like many of us he may have been misjudged by some.

It's hard to believe it has already been a year. I only knew Art from the Lake Sunapee Country Club where he loved to golf. I miss catching a glimpse of him as he passed my window to head our for a round of golf.
He always had a sincere "Hello and how are you doing" for everyone he passed. I know I will see him again one day.
Best wishes to the family.

I'm guessing Art is either playing the piano with the angles or playing the back nine on the best course he has ever seen. Art will be so missed, but know he touched so many lives. He was such a wonderful man.
My sincerest condolences go to the family.
