DAVID KAM Obituary

KAM, David 1956-2020 Dr. David Kam, of Hingham, on Thursday, October 8th, 2020. Loving husband and father of three, passed away peacefully at the age of 64. David was born on October 5th, 1956 to Kam Kwok Choi and Kwok Mu Kou in Hong Kong. In 1975, he immigrated to the United States to attend Stony Brook University, from which he graduated in 1978. He obtained his DMD and MD from Boston University in 1982 and 1985 respectively. He practiced otolaryngology in Weymouth, Duxbury, and Boston. In 1984, he married Laura Mar. They raised two daughters and a son: Christina, Ariana, and Brandon. David's children considered him to be their mentor and best friend in life. He taught them to always "be good" and "be generous." He led his life according to these principles. His passions included maintaining his home, listening to music, building computers, and organizing family trips to the White Mountains and Disney. David was preceded in death by his father, Kwok Choi, and his mother, Mu Kou. He is survived by his wife, Laura; his three children, Christina, Ariana, and Brandon; his brothers, Kei and Fred; his sisters, Ching, Josephine, Katy, Angela, and Lucilla; nieces and nephews; and his colleagues and patients. A private Memorial Service will be held this weekend. The family asks that any donations made in David's name go towards supporting students in need at Boston University School of Medicine through the Medical School Lead Scholarship Fund.

Dr. Kam was a friend and colleague. I am so sad to hear of his passing. We graduated together from our residency program. Shortly after that I asked him to perform surgery on me, my deviated septum which he was kind enough to do. He was such a good doctor and kind person. I will miss him greatly. Such a shame we have lost such a talented and fine man.

Dr. Kam operated and restored my hearing. I called for an appointment today to see him for a different problem. I was told of his passing and I grieved as I knew him as a kind man who when I was attending my mother for an appointment he remarked " you are your mother's soul keeper". I never forgot knowing he too must have had similar feelings of respect and honor toward parents which I have. Something more rare today. I will remember you , Dr. Kam for the good you did for me and your kind words about my mother which I saw you understood. Peace and rest to your soul.

I am saddened to hear that Dr. Kam has passed away and would like to offer my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. I would say he was the nicest doctor I ever had; always humble and concerned. I remember that at least on one occasion to my chagrin he talked to me about healthy eating and exercise which of course I didn't want to hear about. He accepted my humor when I said I was there for my ears not my weight. I will miss you Dr. Kam.

We remember David as part of our family. He lived with us for 6 years and we welcomed Laura to our family as well. He asked me to write a letter of recommendation for him to the BU School of Medicine as he wanted to pursue ENT after graduating from Dental School. Since I was on the faculty of BU and knew the admissions department, I decide to write a personal letter as opposed to a "professional" letter. I reviewed all his fantastic attributes and then at the end noted that in addition, he taught me how to tune my car and he found our oil leak using a dental mirror to look for the leak under the car. I noted that if he could teach me all this automotive stuff, he must be a very special person. I sent the letter in and then worried that this last description may lessen his chances to be admitted. In the end, of course, he was admitted to BUSM. He was a wonderful husband, father and a wonderful physician. It was an honor for both Jane and me to have known him during those years. We have wonderful memories. Ben and Jane Siegel.
