Like many others, our children were blessed to have learned so much from Janet. Her dedication to diversifying the math lessons so that children of all abilities could proceed at their own pace was imaginative and empowering for students. Our girls will remember her also for teaching them to sew and quilt, which they still enjoy to this day. The world is a better place for her time on this earth and we will remember her always for giving generously to all her students. All our best to your family at this difficult time. Janet sounds like she was a wonderful, caring person. I hope to meet her in Paradise where our bodies will be made new. Until then may she rest well.

At Underwood, the Piel Family was constantly in awe of Mrs. Springfield. She could do anything---and everything! She was a wonderful inspiration, both academically and socially, and she was one of the best quilting mentors I've ever had. We are so sorry for your loss, and hope that your love for one another and your memories will help you through this sad time.

Ms. Springfield was one of the most gifted teachers my children ever had. She instilled a love of math in our son that led to his career today. It always astounded me to walk into a high school AP math class and note that at least 50% of the kids were from Underwood. She leaves a wonderful legacy in her students.

Ms. Springfield was the embodiment of a gifted teacher- she was energetic, enthusiastic, and nurturing. She held her students to a high standard of performance, all the while instilling confidence and fostering love of learning. She was brilliantly creative-- we still have the quilted pillow that my son Mark made 10 years ago which helped him learn the concepts of geometry. Mark also remembers the movie he and his classmate made to explain the divisibility rule. Who would think it possible to help children learn math through the art of quilting and film? Thanks to Ms. Springfield's patience and clever strategies, 5th grade marked the one year my son enjoyed math and also made significant progress. We are grateful that Mark had the opportunity to be a student of Ms. Springfield. She was an invaluable gift to the field of elementary education, she was truly special, and we will never forget her. Our love and prayers go out to the Springfield family.
Sincerely, The Gately Family
