John was a sailing buddy of mine; both Flying Tern racers who enjoyed traveling to regattas and just plain having a good time; oh, and he won a bunch of the sailing races.

John was the kindest, most gentlemanly, interesting, and humble man I have ever come across. Every year at his sister, Betsy's New Year's day party I would seek him out to chat. My sincere sympathy to all the family.
