JOHN BRADLEY Obituary

BRADLEY, John M. On Saturday morning, January 30, 2021, John Moors Bradley of Manchester, MA passed, at the age of 98, after a heroic battle with Covid-19. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. During his illness, he had face time with all his family. He will be missed. John was born on September 27, 1922, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Ralph and Eleanor (Cabot) Bradley. He received his undergraduate degree from Williams College in Williamstown in 1943 and master's from MIT in Cambridge, MA in 1947 after enlisting in the World War II effort. He started work as a chemical engineer for Exxon in 1947 and in 1949 he joined the Cabot Corporation as a research engineer. On September 14, 1950, he married Jane Dysart Carpenter. They raised four children, Julie, Ralph, Frank and Didi. John had a passion for many things. He was an avid sailing racer who won numerous awards and was the National Flying Tern champion for many years. He also was a dedicated downhill and cross-country skier. In the spring, one could find him white water canoeing with his family. He also had insatiable curiosity and was awarded numerous patents. His last one was earned when he was in his nineties. John was a devoted family man who deeply loved his wife, Jane, his four children and all his extended family. A week before he passed, he was busily assembling almost a hundred years of videos of family events going from his childhood to the present. John Bradley was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Bradley; his mother, Eleanor Cabot Bradley; and his wife, Jane Carpenter Bradley. He is survived by his four children and spouses, Juliet W. Bradley of Truckee, California, Ralph Bradley II and John Mahi of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, Francis M. Bradley and Adrienne W. Bradley of Manchester, Massachusetts, and Jane D. Blau and Richard N. Blau of Manchester, Massachusetts. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA 01915. The date for his Life Celebration will be determined at a future date. Contributions may be made in his name to Museum of Science, Boston, 1 Science Park, Boston, MA 02114, Attn: Annual Giving. John was a sailing buddy of mine; both Flying Tern racers who enjoyed traveling to regattas and just plain having a good time; oh, and he won a bunch of the sailing races.

John was the kindest, most gentlemanly, interesting, and humble man I have ever come across. Every year at his sister, Betsy's New Year's day party I would seek him out to chat. My sincere sympathy to all the family.
