SIMOES, Joseph F. "Joe" Of Watertown, joined his beloved wife, Elisabeth, in heaven on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. He passed away peacefully in his home in Watertown with family members gathered at his bedside. Joe was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts on December 17, 1923 to Maria and Francisco and united in marriage in 1956 for over 60 years to Elisabeth G. Papierok. They were the loving parents of three children. Joe attended the University of Coimbra in Portugal while supporting his parents and their olive tree farm before serving as a lieutenant and artillery officer in the Portuguese army. Upon returning to the U.S., Joe studied at MIT and began his career as a draftsman/mechanical engineer at the Reece Corporation of Waltham staying for many years before finishing his professional work at EG&G Torque Systems of Watertown. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a beloved neighbor in his Watertown community and will be dearly missed. He was the devoted father of Richard H. Simoes & his wife Mary Lou ( Bulger) of Centerville, Norbert H. Simoes of Natick, and Maryanne Simoes Savage & her husband Timothy of Sagamore Beach. Cherished grandfather of Daniel R. Simoes & his wife Susan Taing, Julie A. Simoes & Mark C. Lockyer, Kathleen Simoes Catanzariti & her husband Nicholas, Stephanie E. Savage & her husband Joshua A. Jones and Timothy R. Savage, Jr. & Christina Dimeco. Great-grandfather of Liam, Nicolas, Paige and Vera. Brother of Adele Fernandes. Brother-in-law of the late Anna & Roland Gaulin, Hilda & Gerhard Wiedera, Norbert & Inge Papierok, Alfonso Fernandes and Gunther Papierok. Also survived by his nieces, their husbands and children. He was devoted to his family and faith. Funeral from the Stanton Funeral Home, 786 Mt. Auburn St. (Rt. 16), WATERTOWN, on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 10 am. Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Luke, 132 Lexington St., Belmont at 10:30 am. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
