Julia Kaufmann Obituary

KAUFMANN, Julia Alexander 84, of Lexington, MA, formerly of Asheboro, NC, and Cambridge, MA, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. Mrs. Kaufmann was born April 24, 1926, in Randolph County to the late Kemp and Annie Moring Alexander. She graduated from Asheboro High School in 1943 and from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC Greensboro) in 1947. She worked briefly in Williamsburg, VA, before moving to Washington DC to work for the Rand Corporation where she met her husband William W. Kaufmann. In Massachusetts, Mrs. Kaufmann was active in public service for many years; she cofounded WBZ Call for Action, chaired the MA Judicial Nominating Committee and was involved with the MA Council of Public Justice. She was also a lifetime member of the American Judiacature Society. Mrs. Kaufmann was preceded in death by her husband Bill who died December 14, 2008. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
