MARK GORMLEY Obituary

GORMLEY, Mark David Of Brookline, passed away suddenly on August 23, 2023. Mark was a loving son of Philip L. Gormley and Margaret "Peggy" (Francis) Gormley; as well as a dear brother of Paul and his wife, Alicia, of Roslindale, and Brian of Brookline. Cherished uncle of Keira Rose Gormley. Mark was a graduate of Brookline High School, class of 2004, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Curry College in 2009. He was a brilliant cinematographer, photographer, and book publisher. He was also a talented musician, completely self-taught on both drums and piano, and was constantly composing new material. Music meant so much to him. Mark was most devoted to his family, his friends, and all who loved him and his non-stop antics. He had the ability to make everyone around him laugh. The light never entered the room until he arrived, and then the party could start. His love of adventure and "living on the edge" mentality was envied by all who knew him. He was a daredevil and took on many challenges just to prove that he could do it. Mark is survived by many uncles and aunts, including Susan Francis of Florida, Martin and Barbara Francis of Marshfield, John Francis of Wareham, Dave and Ellen Gormley of Foxboro, Rosemary Gormley of Boston, Kathy and Fred Fuller of New Jersey. He was predeceased by his uncle Thomas Francis of Brookline. He will also be missed by his large extended family, both here and in Ireland; as well as his supportive network of cousins and friends. Mark cared so deeply for his family and friends and will be remembered for his profound loyalty to those he loved. Visiting Hours will be held in the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington Street, BROOKLINE, MA, on Tuesday, August 29th, from 4:00-8:00 pm. A Graveside Committal Service will be held on Wednesday morning, August 30th, in St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 Lagrange Street, West Roxbury, MA, at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

I miss having Mark over to play drums, or talking about video games when he´d stop by on his route. He always made my day brighter. A true mensch.

Mark was my mailman. He was adored by me and the other neighbors who got to talk to him as he zipped around in his truck and hustled from house to house, trying to keep to his schedule while still making time to say hello and chat. He and I discussed podcasts we liked and he asked me for recommendations for classical music when he was going to his first symphony. I always gave him a JP Licks gift card for the holidays which he loved. He never stopped trying to win over my dog and gave me a big hug when I told him I'd had to finally put my dog down. Mark was kind, helpful, funny, curious, empathetic, smart and just an overall wonderful human. We are all shocked by the news of his passing and feel his absence in our neighborhood every day. I'm sure it will be that way for a long time. Extending my condolences to Mark's family and close friends who surely loved him even more than we did. He will truly be missed and I just pray that he knew how much we appreciated and cared about him.

I am so sorry as the world has lost someone very special. Mark was a good friend to Phil and me. I´ll always remember reviewing movies with him. May all of us bring as much joy to those around us as Mark has.

Dear Peggy, Phil and family,
We were so sad to hear about Mark´s death. Though we haven´t seen you in many years we remember your family fondly. I also don´t think you know that our oldest son, Eli, died this past January. We are still heartbroken and know there really are no words of comfort that really fit the angst and pain of this kind of loss.

Mark was my mailman but it didn´t take long for him to become like family. We´d talk about what video games we were playing and a few times on his rout he had the time to come down to my basement to play some drums. He was universally beloved by everyone on his rout and speaking for every Garnet Road resident, we are devastated and he will me missed deeply.

Mark, my heart hangs heavy for you. I will miss you so much. I can only imagine the intense pain your family and friends are feeling
You always gave me a hug when I needed it. What a kind, caring, sensitive soul you were. I hope you´re in peace where you belong.
Also, I have taken your personal belongings: your paper airplane, cat helmet, desk bell, not to mention your photograph in your younger days.
I see these every day and I think of you.
Your dear friend,
Cecile P Fandel
