Dr. Kuan taught me "The Chinese Economy" at the University of Maryland in the mid 1980s. Her encouragement and guidance had boosted my confidence and influenced me to have a life-long interest in the subject. Dr. Kuan was more than a professor. She continued to guide me in every step of my career building even after I obtained my PhD, just like a mother watching every move of her toddler son. She treated my family as her own, inviting us for home stays in Boston, sending us Christmas gifts year after year, and even making a special trip to DC to send us off at the airport when we relocated to Singapore.
Dr. Kuan will always be remembered by me and my family as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. We will always remember her, especially her innocent smiles and genuine laughter.
