My husband and I were at a Massachusetts Secondary School Conference in Falmouth in 2012 and met Tim as we took a lunchtime walk down to the beach striking up a conversation with him as he walked along with us. We were delighted by his stories and appreciated him sharing his experiences with us - both in education and in the Navy. We had enjoyed talking so much, it prompted us to write and tell him so. He responded with a note that touched us (which I have come across again) and were happy to know that we were able to bring some uplifting moments to him.
We are so sorry for your loss - our thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

For a number of reasons, I was writing a list and thinking of people who made my life better or helped me when I really needed help. There were two people who did everything they could to see that I succeeded in the Boston Public Schools. Gladys DeCosta and Tim Galvin. Gladys recommended me to Mr. Galvin when I was being transferred during desegregation and Mr. Galvin supported me through a pretty ticklish transition, More importantly, a few years later when my young son died from a brain tumor and when I could barely keep it together in the classroom from day to day, he supported me in very quiet ways. He also encouraged me to apply for my first job in management.
We stayed in touch until I left Boston in1980. I have thought of him a lot over the years and i thanked God for placing him in my life, but I never made it clear to him how much his support meant to me,
Today, when people ask about leadership styles, I think of him.
