When I met William while we were waiting in line to pick up the bones box to learn human anatomy, I was impressed by his confidence and composure. He continued to display a calm demeanor while expressing goodwill to all throughout medical school. He maintained a positive mental attitude despite the challenges of daily life. I admire his maturity, integrity, and sincerity.
William continues to inspire me to maintain thoughtful behavior to all while encountering catastrophes. His kindness to all is an attribute that I strive to develop.
May we enhance William's legacy by following his exemplary responses to the stresses that we encounter.

I met William on my first day of medical school. We remained friends throughout the training. I recognize now that he had the mindfulness that I myself seek to attain. He was always kind and compassionate. He could identify the positive aspects of challenging situations. I admire his fortitude and courage. We can further his legacy by following his example to be thoughtful and considerate in each action. When I ask myself how William would approach a vexing problem, I can develop a valuable solution. Let us follow his example.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of William F. Garvin, M.D.
Although we have long been separated by time and distance, I have fond memories of my interactions with Bill as students in medical school. Bill was a native Bostonian who represented the strength and integrity of traditions. Although I came from a different background, Bill and Jeanne always warmly greeted me. They radiated genuine friendship and good will. Bill's sense of humor helped to diffuse the tension of stressful situations. Bill had the knack to make sure that we parted on good terms. I treasure my memories of Bill. I express my sympathy to Jeanne and their family and friends.
