JOHN MURDOCH

JOHN MURDOCH John Fox Murdoch was 86 years old when he went peacefully to be with the Lord March 14, 2015. He was a resident of Boulder City since 1967. He was born to Reverend James and Katherine Murdoch Feb. 16, 1929, in Sparta, Ill. He had four brothers and a sister. He was preceded in death by James, George and Lucille. He is survived by brothers, Douglas and Robert. He proudly served during World War II, stationed in Washington, D.C., where he also played on the Navy football team. He met Evelyn, his wife, of 63 years, while attending Western Michigan University. There, he obtained his BS in history and a BA in geography, literature, music and education. He received his MA in education going on to be an administrator and teacher retiring after 35 years. Garret Jr. High School in Boulder City was his last teaching position. He was a musician with a history of playing the viola, violin and bag pipes. "Amazing Grace" could be heard at many Easter sunrise services. He traveled, was an avid golfer and rock hound generously giving away many of the stones he had cut and polished. He attended Green Valley Presbyterian Church for many years. John is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Paul Murdoch, Edie Murdoch, Kathy and her husband, Tim Kessler; grandchildren, Krista Baker, Nathaniel Murdoch and Germaine Murdoch; and great-grandchildren, Audra and Trevor Baker. John was a wonderful man who loved much and was loved and admired by many. He will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be at 8:40 a.m. Friday, April 17, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City.
