Enedina Guerrero Obituary

Enedina "Nina" P. Guerrero, 90, passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at her residence in Brownsville, Texas.

She was a native of San Fernando, Tamps., Mexico, and had lived in Brownsville most of her life.

Nina was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Vicente Guerrero; her parents, Feliciano and Guadalupe Perez; and two sons-in-law, Raymundo Nuñez and Antonio Benitez.

She is survived by four children, Ninfa Nuñez, Oralia Benitez, Socorro (Herminio) Meza and Vicente (Gloria) Guerrero Jr.; two brothers, Octavio Perez and Javier Perez; two sisters-in-law, Octavia Perez Garza and Maria Perez; 20 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

She lived for the past 21 years with her granddaughter Becky and her husband, Joe Gutierrez. "Nina," as she was known, was a God-fearing woman. She was a member of the Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana Mexicana and helped with that church's building fund. Later in life she became a founding member of the Iglesia Presbiteriana Hispana Americana.

Nina never did anything half way. She would help make tamales and rice for the fundraising of her church and was a happy spirit who read her Bible every day. She would sing church hymns at the drop of a hat, her favorite being #127 of the old Mexican Presbyterian hymn book.

Her goal in life was to talk about salvation to anyone that she came in contact with. Her biggest pride was her family and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was very happy to have been able to visit her great-great-grandchildren in Ohio. Nina loved to travel to Ohio and Florida to visit her family. Her faith is what kept her going. The family would like to express thanks from the bottom of their hearts to Margarita Gonzalez, Cande Palomino, Ana Hughes and Juanita Gaznares, who cared for her. Her family will dearly miss her. Nina, ahora estas en la presencia del Señor. "Vaya con Dios".

Visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. today, Dec. 5. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at the Iglesia Presbiteriana Hispana Americana located at 1001 Ruben Torres Blvd. (FM 802). Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Joe I. Treviño, Garza Memorial Funeral Home, 1025 E. Jackson St., Brownsville, TX 78520. (956) 542-5511.

Dear Oralia and family,

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family on such a great loss of 2 of your dear beloved. They only beat you to the punch and are up there waiting for you. I will always remember what a great friend your Mom was to my Mom when we were kids. She helped her out in every way she could and I will never forget that. I am sure they are up there talking away like they used to do en la sociedad Eunice. My respects! Judi
