Maureen Flavin Obituary

Age 67, of Amherst, New York, passed away unexpectedly July 5, 2024. Born in Lockport, N.Y. to James and Susan Flavin, Maureen graduated in 1975 from Kenmore West High School. A real estate agent for more than four decades, Maureen was named Western New York's top realtor. For many years, she served others through volunteer work at Meals on Wheels. Maureen is survived by her longtime partner, Dr. Joseph Takats; and six siblings: Sue Marie Flavin, Florence (late David Schanley) Flavin-Schanley, Mary (Erin Emery) Flavin, Eileen Flavin, Michael Flavin, and Daniel Flavin. She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Sara Aderman, Meghan Aderman, Shawn Schanley, Ty Blackwell, Cameron Blackwell, Colin Flavin, Ryan Flavin, and Darian Flavin. She was a great-aunt to Natalia, Laila, Sofia and Hunter; and godmother to Gracie Gompah. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents. Known as "Aunt Moe,' to her nieces and nephews, Maureen adored her family. She hosted legendary St. Patrick's Day and Halloween parties, and never missed a birthday, First Communion or graduation celebration. Maureen was proud to be Irish Catholic. She had a big personality, beautiful smile, elegant style and quick wit. She will be missed. The family will receive friends at the C. Mertz and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 911 Englewood Ave. on Friday, July 12th from 4 to 7 PM. All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church (1085 Englewood Avenue)on Saturday, July 13th at 9:30 AM. Please assemble at Church. Burial will be Private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen's memory to your local Meals on Wheels or Girl Scouts of America. Please share condolences at www.mertzfh.com

I'm so sorry to hear of Maureen's passing. As a fellow real estate agent we crossed paths many times over the years. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Moe was always full of life and good humor. She left us too soon and will be greatly missed. May she rest in the peace of heaven.

Maureen was the BEST meals on wheels representative!! My Mom was blind and Maureen always took time to visit and make her feel special! She even made her a fleece blanket . Sincere sympathy
