FRANCES GLUCK Obituary

FRANCES E. GLUCK - BURLINGTON - On Sunday, May 10, 2015, Frances "Frannie" Esther Gluck passed away peacefully in Gardenview at The Converse Home in Burlington. A truly memorable person, Frannie died from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Born on Aug. 18, 1924, in Lawrence, Mass., to Louis and Elizabeth (Stearn) Blotner, Frannie was the third of five children and one of three redheads. Raised in Lawrence, Frannie graduated from Lawrence High School in 1942. As a young woman, she was a bookkeeper at a local furniture store and served as an enthusiastic member of the Junior U.S.O. In 1949, Frannie met Joseph Gluck, who had immigrated to the U.S. from Hungary in 1941. They fell in love and were married on March 12, 1950. In 1952, Joe had a job opportunity in Rutland so the Gluck's, with their infant daughter, Harriet, moved to Vermont where Fran had been told that there would be more cows than people! 1955 was an exciting year with the birth of their son, Leonard, and the establishment of Home Fashions, Inc., an interior decorating business. For 31 years, Fran and Joe worked together and became an integral part of the Rutland business community. After the sudden death of her beloved Joe on May 8, 1987, Frannie had a broken heart that she filled by giving of herself. She became a very active member of the Rutland Jewish Center. A pillar of the congregation, Frannie received so much support in return. She also volunteered for over 20 years at the Rutland Hospital. Helping patients make their meal selection, Frannie would always encourage them to select an additional piece of fruit - "You've got to eat to be strong." As a Lady Shriner of Airoc Court #32, Frannie enjoyed singing with her group at senior communities. The major focus of Frannie's life was her family. She took great pride in her grandchildren's accomplishments. How fortunate we are to have had the love, support and devotion of completely selfless Frannie! Frannie is survived by her daughter, Harriet Mace (Garrit); son, Leonard (Brenda); siblings, Barbara Michelson (Richard), and Norman Blotner (Muriel); four grandsons, Justin Mace (Robin), Adam Mace (Shauna), Joseph and Daniel Gluck; and four great-grandchildren, Brody and Ryder Mace, and McKenna and Riley Mace; numerous nieces and nephews; and several sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law. She was predeceased by her brothers, Samuel and David Blotner. The family extends boundless gratitude to the wonderful healthcare professionals and incredible caregivers at The Converse Home/Gardenview Community. A graveside service will be held at the Rutland Jewish Cemetery in Clarendon at 1:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 13, 2015. The family will greet friends (shiva) at the home of Leonard and Brenda Gluck, 8 Adirondack St., South Burlington, on Thursday, 5 to 9 p.m., and Friday, 3 to 7 p.m. Arrangements are in the care of Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Frannie's memory with a donation to VNA Hospice of Chittenden County or to the Gardenview Community at The Converse Home for musical programs and entertainment. Keep a good memory of Frannie.

Harriet and Leonard,

So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I have known your mother since I worked at Rutland Savings Bank and I met her at the hospital where she helped me quit smoking. I saw her regularly when I worked at Marble Bank. She was a kind, loving, fun wonderful person, I will not forget her..

Lenny and Brenda, Harriet and Gary, I was saddened by your mother's passing. I have very fond memories of her. Your parents were so kind to me and I will always think of them with a smile. My sister would run into your mom at the hairdresser and she would keep her updated with your lives. She was also so kind to my dad when he was in the hospital. Certain people you never forget and she was one. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Fondly Mary Baker Lagattuta

Harriet, Lenny and family,
Always enjoyed bumping into Frances downtown as she hustled along getting her chores done for the store. But she always had time to stop and ask how things were going for you and your family. Not to mention her quick wit and sense of humor. Great lady!

Mrs Gluck use to come into the Marble Bank and called me Petunia and when I had the signs of a cold, she would bring me some chicken soup and home made goodies. She was a beautiful person and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
