Geoffrey Gover Obituary

Geoffrey David Gover

Colchester - Geoffrey David Gover, 58, of Colchester, passed away on April 11, 2021. If ever there was a car guy, Geoff was it. He had cars since before he could drive, tinkering with them, fixing them, and driving them as fast as they could go (and sometimes faster). He was brilliant at everything mechanical and there were few things he could not fix. Over his lifetime, he built and rebuilt several cars, including an antique Willys Jeep, a 1984 BMW 318i, and a Chevy called "Black Magic." He loved to just take a drive and go exploring, especially on his Harley Davidson motorcycle or in his C6 Corvette that he went all the way to Alabama to buy.

When he wasn't fulfilling his need for speed, Geoff was working at Lane Press. An employee there for 38 years, he worked his way up from being a pressman to a Shift Supervisor. Geoff was a natural leader, inspiring others to reach their full potential and always exuding confidence, two qualities he passed on to his daughters.

At the age of 19, Geoff married his high school sweetheart, Barb. It was fate that brought them together, or maybe the fact that their lockers happened to be next to one another at Colchester High School. They had their first daughter, Erin, in 1983 and their second daughter, Allyson, in 1991. Geoff believed in working hard for your success and to make a better life for yourself and your family, which he accomplished in spades. His daughter Erin is a lawyer, and Allyson is a supervisor at a national early education center. He couldn't have been a more proud father.

Geoff is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters Erin (husband Matthew) and Allyson (husband Austin); his sisters Susan and Lisa; and his brother Gerald, Jr.

Geoff also passed along his loves of travel and learning to his daughters. He visited Germany, Chicago, Prince Edward Island, and countless other destinations, loving the chance to learn more and see everything. He was also an avid "Jeopardy" watcher and could have been a contestant.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 14 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N Winooski Avenue, Burlington, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church, 416 Church Road, Colchester, VT on Thursday, April 15 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in New Mt. Calvary Cemetery. If you have a motorcycle, please feel free to join the procession or just rev it up in honor of Geoff. He would have loved that.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Stand Up to Cancer.

I am so sorry to hear of Geoffrey’s passing. It was much too early for this kind of thing. Geoff was one of the smartest people I knew and this world will sorely miss him.
He deeply cared about his family and I can only imagine the hurt they must feel.
