KEVIN O'BRIEN Obituary

KEVIN F. O'BRIEN - BURLINGTON - Kevin Francis O'Brien, 56, died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care, surrounded by his siblings. He was born in Shelburne on Oct. 9, 1956, the son of George and Helen O'Brien. He grew up on the family farm, enjoying this time with his family. Kevin attended Shelburne Central School, Bennett C. Douglas School in Burlington, and completed his education at Essex Technical Center. Kevin then began a 23year career at UVM in housekeeping. In recent years, he enjoyed working part-time at Michael's Crafts Store. In 2008, he retired to Ruggles House in Burlington where he established many friendships, creating a second family to him. He especially enjoyed weekly Bingo nights, game nights and movie nights, along with many impromptu gatherings with his Ruggles family. Kevin is survived by his 10 siblings, Kathleen O'Brien, Kary Towne and husband, Jeffery, Tom O'Brien, Susan O'Brien, Mike O'Brien, Maureen O'Brien and husband, Bob Van Kleeck, Dennis O'Brien, Eileen O'Brien, Rebecca Ramsey and husband, Bill, and Sharon Hickey and husband, Jim. In addition, he is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and a large extended family. Participating in Special Olympics was an important part of Kevin's life for many years. Whether it was bowling or bocce, Kevin always was eager to share his latest achievements with family and friends. His two-week stay at Camp Thorpe was the highlight of every summer. An accomplished artist, Kevin leaves an extensive collection of paintings, created during his weekly class at GRACE Arts. Throughout his life, Kevin displayed a positive outlook and a kind nature. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Ready Funeral Home, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
