Dorothy Hathaway Obituary

Dorothy Ann Hathaway
08/10/1938 - 01/19/2025
Dorothy Ann Hathaway, age 86, died peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025, surrounded by her family. Ann was a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie, and friend who will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Ann was born on August 10, 1938 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Her parents, Elizabeth and Fain Caesar, moved to Oklahoma City where she attended high school at Northeast High School where she was crowned yearbook queen. She attended OSU for a few years and was part of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. At 25 years old, she moved to Midland and would start a 61-year journey in this community.
Ann and Joe were both avid volunteers for the Midland Community Theater. Ann sewed costumes at the theater for over 35 years and ran the Costume Rental Shop for several years. They were ushers and could be regularly seen handing out programs at every weekend show. Ann and Joe also played a key role during Summer Mummers for over three decades and were honored in 1993 with the Distinguished Service Award of Summer Mummers and inducted into the Mule Train Gallery at Summer Mummers. Ann and Joe were both honored with a lifetime member award.
Ann drove Meals on Wheels for 32 years and refused to drive with anyone else as she wanted to stay and visit with each of her people. When she finally had to give up driving and therefore her beloved route, they honored her with naming the route after her- the Ann route.
Ann was also involved in numerous activities in Midland including St Mark's Methodist Church, R.S.V.P, Tai Chi, Coloring Club, Warm Water Walking, and many more. Ann also had an unwavering love of animals including her three dogs Ralph, Susie, and Hope.
Ann spent many years traveling throughout the US and Europe for art shows with her sister Jane or family trips with her larger, extended family. She once sat next to Matthew McConaughey on a flight and managed to charm him with her humor. She never met a stranger and you could always find her making new friends in every new city.
Ann is survived by her husband of 45 years, Joe Hathaway, her sister, Jane Kistler, her brother-in-law, Wayne Hathaway, her son, Doug Halley, her daughter and son-in-law, Kelly & Mark Thomas, her son and daughter-in-law, James and Lisa Moore, her step-children, Milton Hathaway, Lisa Wilks, Maryann Hathaway, her six grandkids, Justin Kyle, Miranda Chesson, Mason Moore, Catherine Thomas, Bethany Moore, Hayden Thomas, her great grand-daughter, Elora Hudson, and many Midland friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Midland Meals on Wheels or the Humane Society of Midland.

Ann was a cherished volunteer who brought unwavering support to my role as Box Office Manager at MCT alongside Joe. Her heartfelt tears when I left MCT reminded me of the deep connections we forge in our journeys. Ann was truly a remarkable person, and her memory will always inspire me.

since Joe was involved in the COPs program at the Midland Police Department, we got to know Ann very well. She was very supportive of his volunteering in COPs.
She never failed to attend events with him for the program. And she was a pleasure to be around.
