Born on Feb. 14, 1947, in Hilliards, he was the son of the late H. Keith "Monk" and Devona R. "Snook" Stevens Christie.
Rick married Carol Lee Twentier on May 1, 1965. They celebrated 57 years together this past May. They had four children, Rich, Jeff, Mike and Leslie.
Rick was a member of the 1966 Moniteau Junior/Senior High School Class.
He was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church in Hooker, a lifetime member of the Valley Dam Sportsmen's Snowmobile Association, a lifetime member of the Northern Butler County Hunting and Fishing Club, and a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury.
He loved to golf and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Rick worked as a welder at Pullman Standard from 1966 until its closure. Following his welding career, he began a career in logistics, first as a driver, then an operator, eventually founding R.D. Christie Trucking. Together with his son, Jeff, in 1997 he co-founded Christie Excavating, where he continued working until his retirement in April 2022.
Rick will be greatly missed by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Leslie (Tony) Carnahan of Hooker; two sons, Richard (Tammy) Christie of Sugar Land, Texas, and Michael (Tiffany) Christie of Annisville, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Devin Christie, Nicholas Christie, Ethan Freshwater, Layne Christie and Declan Christie, all of Hooker, Alexander Christie of Annisville, Pa., and Jordan Christie and Dylan Christie of Sugar Land, Texas; and his lifelong best friend, Lyle Hutchinson of Karns City.
He is also survived by his siblings, Dixie (Don) Jackson of Hooker, Howard (Judy) Christie of Butler, Lana (Bruce) Toth of Eau Claire, and Jody (Pete) Campbell of Hilliards; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry (Caroline) Twentier of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Gary (Darlene) Twentier of Eau Claire, Cathy (Kent) Campbell of Polk, and Mark (Beth) Twentier of Sarver.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey A. Christie, who passed away May 6, 2003; a brother, Sherwell (Pete) Christie, who passed away in February of 2022; a nephew, Steve Christie; a niece, Darla (Christie) Reese; and a brother-in-law, Clyde Twentier Jr.
