Simon Reyes Jr.

Simon Reyes, Jr., 72, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones after a long illness on Tuesday, September 19, 2006. He was born on October 16, 1933 in Goliad, Texas to Simon Reyes Sr. and Martina O. Reyes. He volunteered in the National Guard and was called to active duty by the US Army and served 2 years in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 364. He worked for Nueces Furniture Co., Fedway and Dillards. He learned the trait of furniture refinishing and worked with his brother-in-laws, Carlos and Johnny Diaz.He is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Martina O. Reyes, sisters, Genoveva R. Garcia, Remedios R. Garcia; brothers, Ramon O. Reyes and Gonzalo "Charlie" O. Reyes.He is survived by his elementary school sweetheart loving wife of 57 years, Mary I. Reyes; two daughters, Frances L. (Macedonio, Jr.) Villarreal, Elizabeth A. Mendoza; son, Simon (Eloisa) Reyes, III; Seven grandchildren, Melissa Ann, Mary Frances and Macedonio Villarreal, III, Natalie Marie (Erick) Flores, Joshua Reyes, Ashley L. Mendoza, Lucas L. Rodriguez; Great-Grandchild, Ezekiel Flores; brothers, Ruben and Juan Guerrero; sister, Pomposa O. Alaniz and several nephews and nieces.Public visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2006 at Memorial Funeral Home, Holly chapel with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Mary Mother of the Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.Pallbearers will be: Joshua Reyes, Macedonio Villarreal III, Gonzalo Reyes, Jr., Roland Alaniz, Carlos Diaz, Jr., Joe Louis Garcia, Raymond Reyes and Ruben Guerrero, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Honorable Judge, David Diaz, Dr. Tony Diaz, Johnny Diaz, Joe Salinas, and Lucas L. Rodriguez.A special thanks to Christus Spohn Hospice staff, Anita Wagner, Brenda and Robin for the special care they provided for Simon.
