Joseph Gonzales Obituary

Joseph G. Gonzales, 59, of Kennewick, Washington passed away on October 9, 2013. He was born July 24, 1954, in Florence, Colorado. He Graduated from Florence High School in 1973. Joe worked for many years helping the United States Army destroy chemical weapons made during the Cold War. He came to Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (UMCDF) in January 2000 after working several years in Operations Support on Johnston Island. The Johnston Atoll Chemical Agent Disposal System (JACADS) served as the prototype of chemical demilitarization plants in the States, including UMCDF, at Umatilla, Joe worked in Operations as the project went through systemization and then began processing chemical munitions and agent. He then spent several years as Operations Support Manager, which included waste management and support of employees who made entries into toxic areas. Joe left UMCDF in June of 2013. Joe enjoyed golfing, skiing, sailing, and flying his Ultra-Light, and most of all he loved being surrounded by his Family and friends. He was a very giving person and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who would ask. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Joe married Gwen (Allen) Gonzales on September 3, 2005 who survives. He is also survived by his beloved bull dog "Simon", Brother Danny Gonzales, Sister-in-law Doris Gonzales and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Daniel Gonzales and his sister Alberta Collett. The world has lost a great man, friend, brother and husband. Until we meet again I hope you enjoy finding us the best place to golf when we see you on the other side my friend. You had so many friends who will never forget you "Gonzo". A mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Saint Benedicts Church, 622 West 2nd street, Florence, Colorado. A reception will be held immediately after the mass at the church Annex next door to the Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Joseph G.
