H. Balyeat Obituary

H. Lee Balyeat II, 80, of Salem, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at his residence. Born June 26, 1930, in Mansfield, he was the son of Herman Lee and Olive C. (Burger) Balyeat. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1948 and Ohio Wesleyan in 1952. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. From 1955 to 1964 he managed Rest Rite Bedding Company of Mansfield and from 1965 to 1981 he managed the clothing and textile department of Karolls in Chicago, Ill and was the owner/operator, along with his wife Mary, of Mar-Lee Corp. retiring in 1990 and was a member of the American Legion Post 16. He was a resident of Mansfield most of his life, moving to Salem in 2011 following the death of his wife, Mary. Surviving are a daughter, Beth Anne Major of Sanford, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Colleen Erndt of Roanoke; one granddaughter, Amey Catherine Major; five stepgrandchildren, Bridgette Helms Vest, Julie May Steele, Jenny Lynn Burke, Joseph Michael Erndt and Kimberly Colleen Erndt; stepgreatgrandchildren, Nick and Ben Helms, Chad Erndt, Danny and Jenna Steele, and Forrest, Austin and Conner Burke; and two stepgreat-greatgrandchildren, Jessika Erndt and Faith Anne Steele. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gretchen (Kern) Balyeat on September 10, 2010 and a step granddaughter, Jessika Amber Lewis in 2001. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Malabar Farms. Wappner Funeral Directors, Mansfield, Ohio, is privileged to serve the family of H.
