He was on the General (national) Commission on the Status and Role of Women in the United Methodist Church and the last four years also as their representative to the general commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns. He served as president of the statewide Center for Persons with Disabilities in the Life of the Church. Later, he was the Canton/Tuscarawas representative to the East Ohio Conference Disabilities Taskforce, whose duties included being on the Canton/Tuscarawas District Committee.
He was preceded in death by both parents and an older sister, Carol Kreidler. He is survived by ex-wife, Ruth (Kirkpatrick) of North Canton; brother, William of Houston, Texas; sons, Christopher (Lori) of the home and Bradley of Alliance.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in North Canton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The National Ataxia Foundation or The Camp Tuscazoar Foundation.

It was very much a privilege to work with Jim as an officer of the Camp Tuscazoar Foundation. His courage in the face of constant adversity was an encouragement, as was his sense of humor, and I think of him often. I very much regret that I cannot attend the memorial service, and my thoughts and prayers will be with the family at that time and in the future.
