Michael Wolsey Obituary

Michael James Wolsey
Mike went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, succumbing to renal disease at age 70. He was born March 2, 1940 in Hellesdon near Norwich, Norfolk, England, the eldest child of James H. and Joan Wolsey's six children. At age 23 he left England to live and work in Germany for three years, then at age 27 came to the United States becoming a citizen in 1977. He was a skillful tool and die maker for Ford Motor Company for 37 years. The Wolseys lived in the old general store in Paris, Ohio for 25 years before moving to Canton in 2001.
Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Wolsey (nee Cowan) whom he married May 25, 1974; daughter, Alexis Wolsey and granddaughters, Lauren and Mia of London, England; son, Jeremy Wolsey (Claire) and grandson, Leo of London, England; daughter, Abigail Jellel (Joshua) of Chicago, Ill.; son, Reuben Wolsey of the home; daughter, Hannah Wolsey of Kent, Ohio; father, James H. Wolsey of Drayton, England; sisters, Veronica Peake of Norwich, England and Georgina Sparkes (David) of Hethersett, England; brothers, Francis (Jane) Wolsey of Drayton, England and Richard (Amanda) Wolsey of Worlingham, England; also nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan, and his brother, Christopher of Drayton, England.
As a young man Mike traveled, often hitchhiking, through many European countries enjoying the people, the food, and the sights. He loved to tell the stories of his many adventures. He most loved returning to his beautiful and beloved Norfolk, and was especially drawn to its seacoast. Mike had an avid interest in World War II and often amazed people with the knowledge he had of that and many other subjects. He was a generous man, supporting Christian missions and helping when he saw anyone in need. He will be especially remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
There will be a memorial service at First Friends Church, 5455 Market Ave. N., in Canton, OH 44714 on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. Private burial will take place in Paris, Ohio on Dec. 2.
