Charles Franklin "Chuck" Wendel, 67, of Annapolis, and previously of Houlton, Maine, died November 4 at his residence of heart failure.
He was born January 4, 1942 in Medina, N.Y.
He received a BA in 1969 from Canisius College; MA in 1972 from Niagara University; MS in 1973 from Duquesne University; and PhD from University of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Wendel was the Director of Counseling, Allegheny Intermediate Unit in Pittsburgh; Director of Counseling at Avon Grove High School in Avon Grove, PA, Greenville / Union 60 in Greenville, Maine and Southern Aroostook Community Schools in Island Falls, Maine.
He was a Board Member on the Maine Audobon Society; he published a book of poetry; conducted bird habitat research assessments; and was past president of the Pennsylvania State Counseling Association.
Mr. Wendel was licensed to counsel in Maine, Maryland and Pennsylvania; was a university lecturer in Maine, New York and Pennsylvania.
Hobbies included birding - he participated in Christmas Bird Counts for 25+ years. He also started a quilt guild in Greenville, ME
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Anne Wendel, whom he married May 19, 1988; first wife, Patricia Wendel, they were married Oct. 8, 1978 and divorced in 1987; one son, Thearin R. Wendel of Kensington; two sisters, Patricia Pincus of Pittsford, N.Y. and Jacqueline Cisteros of Anguilla, British Virgin Islands;
Grandson, Alex Wendel of Kensington; his parents, Theresa J. Wendel of Penfield, N.Y. and the late George W. Wendel; daughter-in-law, Sandra Novotny; and brother-in-law, Ralph Cisteros.
Mass of Christian Burial Mon., Nov. 9, at 9:00 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis.
Memorial gathering on Mon., Nov. 9, from 5-8 PM at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis.
Private interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, Del.
