John E. Towles, 83, a resident of Pasadena, died January 5 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Baltimore, and attended Baltimore City College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from April 1945 to November 1946. He was employed by Baltimore Salesbook Co. from 1944 to 1945 and again from 1947 to 1951. Later, he went on to work at Westinghouse as an inspector in 1951, and retired in 1986.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #189 where he served as Past Master as well as the IBEW. He was also affiliated with the Eastern Star, Chapter 82. John was an avid sports fan, especially of the Baltimore Colts and Ravens, and enjoyed fishing, bowling and Maryland crabs.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Carmella "Pat" Towles.
He is survived by two children, John B. Towles of Laurel and Sharon A. Henn of Millersville; three siblings, Kenny Towles of Palm Coast, Fla., Delores Cole of Kilmarnock, Va. and Duke Towles of Va.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, January 10 at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue SW, Glen Burnie, where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 11 in the funeral home chapel. Interment Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
