Lois Vaughn Obituary

Lois May Vaughn June 29, 1929 - November 2, 2009 Floral Designer. Lois May Vaughn, 80, of Huntingdon, died on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at her residence. She was a Huntingdon County resident for the past 57 years and at her current home since 1948. Born June 29, 1929, in Greenwood, Altoona, she was a daughter of the late Theodore S. and Lois Mae (Shafer) Clark. On Oct. 30, 1948, she married Robert William "R.W." "Bill" Vaughn, at the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon with the Rev. Gilbert Bennett officiating. Mr. Vaughn preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2005. She is survived by three sons, Michael D. Vaughn, of Huntingdon, Daniel R. Vaughn and his wife, Cindy, of Mount Union, and Chris S. Vaughn, of Mount Union; two daughters, Jennifer J. Klemow and her husband, Jordon, of Coral Springs, Fla., and Sally J. Vaughn, of Philadelphia; one brother, Ray E. Clark and his wife, Anne, of Belleville; two sisters, Sue Weaverling, of Smithfield, and Marie Harrison and her husband, Bill, of Ormond Beach, Fla.; brother-in-law, Jack D. Vaughn and his wife, Shirley, of McVeytown; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, T. Rex Clark. She was a 1947 graduate of Alexandria High School, the last class before the merger to Juniata Valley School District. She began her employment as a telephone operator with Bell Telephone company in Harrisburg and Huntingdon area. She is most noted as a floral designer for over 50 years, first with the Vaughn's Flower Shop in Huntingdon from 1948 to 1972, and then in 1975, she was instrumental in opening Colonial Florist and Gift Shop in Mount Union. She continued her work with Daniel Vaughn Designs in State College, retiring in Jan. of 2007. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, a member of the Ladies Circle at the church, a volunteer for the Cub, Boy and Girl Scout programs, and interested in interior decorating and design. She enjoyed her role as a mother and spending time with her family and her many friends. Family and friends will be received at the Cutright Funeral Homes - Smithfield Chapel, 313 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, until the hour of the service. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas A. Young officiating. Interment will be in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon. Arrangements by Cutright Funeral Homes - Smithfield Chapel.
