Joseph Wright Obituary
Joseph "Joe" Thomas Wright Sr., 68, went home to be with the Lord in Heaven on Sunday, October 12, 2025 in Summerville, SC.
He was born as the beloved son of the late Elmore Wright and Mary "Lib" Elizabeth (Page) Wright on Friday, January 25, 1957 in Charleston, SC.
Joseph married Deborah M. Wright, spending years together as their family grew. He was a hard worker who also knew how to play hard. He worked in the construction field as a brick mason and heavy equipment operator who was able to do everything needed to build a house from the ground up. He was known for his passion for all types of auto racing, especially NASCAR. Bill Elliott was his driver many years ago and Chase Elliott was his current driver. He spent many weekends at the Summerville Speedway in South Carolina as a pit crew member. He knew how to rebuild engines and do everything needed to make sure the race cars went fast. He enjoyed boating and fishing at Cypress Gardens, The Edisto River and anywhere else in the low country of South Carolina. He was good at bowling, shooting pool, darts and golf. He loved warm weather, being outside and enjoying nature.
Joseph will be remembered for his big heart, easygoing spirit, frugal ways and hardworking nature. He truly loved family and living a simple life.
He is survived by his loving children; his son Daniel Karetski of Pittsburgh, PA; three daughters, Lois Wright of Ladson, SC, Melissa Wright of Grampian, PA and Josette Wright of Grampian, PA; four grandchildren, Joseph Helms, Vincent Thomas, Maddison Sipe and Alexis Lowmaster; brother Ronald Wright of Summerville, SC; two sisters, Vivian Wright of Summerville, SC and Cheryl Dean LaRose of Summerville, SC; and many other loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Deborah M. Wright (separated); sister, Betty Wright; as well as his loving son, Joseph Thomas Wright Jr.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Joe's life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm. The gathering will be held at James A Dyal Funeral Home located at 303 S. Main St, Summerville, SC 29483. All friends and family are invited and encouraged to attend.
