David Clarence Atwell
MOORESVILLE -- Mr. Atwell, 90, of 203 Dry Dock Loop, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury, NC. He was born in Mecklenburg County, January 11, 1916, son of the late Augusta and Dora Connelly Atwell. He served in the US Army during World War II, and retired from the U.S. Post Office.
Survivors include his wife, Sammie J. Atwell; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike Atwell and Sheila, Bill Atwell, and Steve Atwell, all of Mooresville, and Clarance Atwell and Sylvia of Statesville; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine A. Bumgarner and Johnny of Mooresville; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Bob Atwell of Mooresville, and Henry Atwell of Davidson, NC; sister, Sarah Grisdale of Kannapolis, NC; and step sons, Mike Rash of Mooresville, and Frankie Rash of Charlotte.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Neill Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hale Greene in charge. Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Park. Military rites will be by American Legion, DAV, and American Legion Posts of Statesville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
