Florence Singer

Florence Singer "Lue" CHARLOTTE - Florence "Lue" Singer, age 87, of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014. She was born June 28, 1927, to the late W. Jay and Florence W. Chaffee in St. Albans, Vermont. Mrs. Singer graduated from the University of North Carolina Charlotte with a B.A. in Education. She retired from Mecklenburg County Schools as a Special Needs Teacher. Mrs. Singer was a long-time member of Avondale Presbyterian Church having served as an Elder, Stephen Minister and recipient of the Honorary Lifetime Membership of Presbyterian Women in 2001. She enjoyed Bible studies, crafts, square dancing, travel, and was an avid Book Club member. Mrs. Singer is survived by her husband of 65 years, James P. Singer; son James J. Singer and wife Sara, of Raleigh; daughter Nancy and husband William DeStasio, of Mooresville; six grandchildren, Melissa and husband Brian Buchberg, of Virginia Beach, VA, Jacob Singer, of Pensacola, FL, Jay Singer, of Morris, MN, Nicholas Freeman of Charlotte, Alex Freeman and Steven Freeman, both of Raleigh; great-grandson Ascher Buchberg; and close friend and caregiver, Teresa Faucette. A memorial service honoring Mrs. Singer's life will be held Friday, November 14, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Avondale Presbyterian Building Fund.
