Andrew Mitchell Peeler, Jr.
Rev. Peeler, of 4601 Hidden Valley Road, Charlotte, was born on March 16, 1925 in Cabarrus County, NC to the late Fred A. Peeler, Sr. and Goldie Weeks Peeler. On Saturday, June 19, 2004 our beloved transitioned to glory with a 'Hallelujah' and is now with the Lord. Those of us he leaves with the hope of the resurrection are his wife of 53 years, Elvin Cureton Peeler; one son, Fred A. Peeler, III; and three daughters, Freddie Bee Peeler, Phyllis Lomax and Shirley Gable; sister, Lydia Hill of Concord; seven grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Rev. Peeler was educated in the Cabarrus County School System and graduated from Logan High School. He attended Barber Scotia College, and in preparation for ministry completed studies at Ambassador Bible College in Pasadena, CA and Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL.
Pastor Peeler was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, having served two years in the United States Air Force. He received the call to ministry and was licensed and ordained by the Piedmont Tri-State District Convention (Disciples of Christ) August 9, 1958. H served for four years as the pastor of Corinth Christian Church in Chatham, VA, and seven years as pastor of Cleveland Avenue Christian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. On April 24 and 25, 2004, First Christian Church celebrated Pastor Peeler's 35th year as pastor.
Rev. Peeler has served as the President of the Piedmont Tri-State District Convention consisting of 27 churches in North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. He was a co-founder of the Logan Ministerial Association, a member of the Greater Cabarrus Ministerial Association and Human Relations Committee.
Rev. Peeler was very active in serving the community and taught a community Bible Study for Senior Citizens. After 32 years of service, Pastor Peeler retired from Overnite Transportation Company, where he was a supervisor. He enjoyed life and brought joy to those whose lives he touched. Many regard him as a father, mentor and friend.
Services for Rev. Peeler will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 24, 2004 at First Christian Church of Concord, NC, with the family receiving friends from 1:00-2:00 PM. Interment will be in Rutherford Memorial Park, Concord.
Clark Funeral Home of Kannapolis is assisting the family.
