Mary Jane Brooks

1933 - 2025

Mary Jane Brooks, 91, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025.
Born on Feb. 10, 1933, in Murphy, N.C., she grew up in the Martins Creek community before moving to Atlanta, where she spent most of her life and raised her children.
Mary Jane was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, loving grandmother and beloved sister. Her faith in the Lord guided her in all aspects of life and served as a foundation for the love and kindness she shared with all who knew her.
Mary was a faithful member of her church where she served as an adult Sunday school teacher, encouraging them in their devotion and walk with the Lord.
She enjoyed using her talents as a member of her quilting club. She was well known for her great cooking abilities and delighted in preparing meals for her family. She always enjoyed new adventures of travel. 
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Brooks; her parents, Henry and Carrie Martin Hughes; and her siblings, James Hughes, Clarence "Bill" Hughes, Eunice Martin and Don Hughes.
Mary leaves behind her beloved sons, Greer (Emelia) Brooks and Mark (Tammy) Brooks. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Amy Brooks, Wesley Brooks, Robin (Eric) Peterson, Sean Brooks, David Brooks and Lauren Brooks, who were the lights of her life. Additionally, she is remembered by her dear sister, Mozelle Hughes, and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home, McCaysville Chapel, with the Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Prior to the service, her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Macedonia Baptist Church, Murphy.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Greer Brooks, Mark Brooks, David Brooks, Wesley Brooks, Sean Brooks and Eric Peterson.
