Alan will be missed by his many friends at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. He was fascinated by the ancient civilizations of the Near East, and was able to pursue that interest through his service as a member of the Oriental Institute's Visiting Committee from 1998 until his death. He also actively engaged with the Oriental Institute's work of discovery through his support of our archaeological excavations at the 6000 year of city of Hamouker in Syria. We will miss his quiet wit, his keen curiosity, and his loyal friendship.
