Sorry to hear of Als passing. I just saw the notice in the Lane Alumni News. Im glad I got a chance to say something to his family before they pulled this guest book. Just like Jerry, me and Al go back to grammar school and high school (hi Jerry). There are guys you grow up with and Al was one of those. I know him very well, but it was too bad we didn't keep in contact. We both had a car bug that started in grammar school, building models from Jacks Hobby Shop on North ave. Yes and I got to ride in that 58 Chevy too. After high school in the winter we would go to Orr High School and cut donuts in the ice to impress the girls. There are lots of stories that Al and me share and some of them will never be heard. Its great to see that he has a nice family and grand kids. He was a great guy and his spirit deseves to live on.The last time I saw Al I was in traffic court with a ticket and he was sitting in the front row waving at me. After court we got together and Al took me for a ride in his new Challenger. As always Al gave me a ride to remember....a 100+ on the Eisenhower. He told me he became a cop because he couldn't afford the tickets anymore. I'll miss you "Al Babes".

SORRY, I WAS CUT OFF IN MID THOUGHT.AS I WAS SAYING YOUR PASSING HAS BEEN ALOT HARDER FOR ME TO COME TO TERMS WITH THAN I THOUGHT, NOT THAT I DID'NT KNOW I'D MISS YOU, BUT TO SUCH GREAT LENGTHS.I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I AM TRYING REAL HARD TO BE THE DAUGHTER AND MOTHER I KNOW YOU WOULD HAVE WANTED ME TO BE AND WOULD HAVE DONE YOU PROUD, BECAUSE YOU ALWAYS DID ME PROUD. I WANTED YOU TO KNOW HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO ME THAT YOU NEVER REALLY GAVE UP ON ME WHEN THINGS GOT DIFFICULT BETWEEN US AND I KNOW YOU WERE ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN GETTING ME BACK ON TRACK WHEN I NEEDED IT. I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT DAD. LIKE THEY SAY YOU MAY BE GONE, BUT YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN, AND I HOPE SOME OF YOUR GOOD SPIRIT WILL LIVE ON THRU ME. I LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI DAD, IT'S ME AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN A MONTH SINCE YOU FELL ASLEEP AND DID NOT WAKE, I KNOW IT SOUNDS SILLY, BUT THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I FEEL I CAN LET YOU KNOW HOW I AM FEELING. I HAVE MISSED YOU SO MUCH SINCE YOU LEFT, THERE IS NOT A DAY GOES BY THAT I DON'T THINK OF YOU OR SOMETHING, EVEN SEEING SOMEONE ON A MOTORCYCLE MAKES ME THINK ALWAYS OF YOU AND HOW YOU SHOULD BE THE ONE OUT THERE RIDING YOUR BIKES.

I STARTED AS A FRIEND OF MAUREEN AND THE GIRLS, A FRIEND OF AL'S, AND QUICKLY BECAME PART OF HIS FAMILY.
AL LOVED AND LIVED TO ENJOY HIS FAMILY,SEE AS MUCH OF WHAT THE WORLD HAD TO OFFER HIM, AND TO FEEL THE WIND ON HIS FACE AS HE DID IT.
AL'S "BABY-GIRL" TOLD ME THAT HE SAID HE WASN'T AFRAID OF DYING, HE WAS AFRAID OF LIVING IN PAIN.
WHAT BETTER WAY FOR HIM TO LEAVE THIS LIFE, THAN TO SIMPLY GO INTO A PEACEFUL SLEEP?
MAY YOU FOREVER KNOW THE LOVE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS HOLD FOR YOU, FEEL THE THRILL OF THE RIDE, THE WIND IN YOUR HAIR, AND THE PEACE THAT YOU FELT WHEN YOU LEFT US.
YOU'LL FOREVER BE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND HEARTS,
PEG

Growing up I always heard these riviting stories about my dad and his friends. Al always seemed to be the one that stood out as someone who would cross the world for anyone he cared about. He was always there for me and my family, and even though there were sometimes long spaces in time between visits of our families, he was always uncle Al as far as my sisters and I were concerned. I hope it is comforting to know that he will always be in our thoughts. I saw the way he interacted with my father and it makes me smile to know that friendship transends all. Al will be greatly missed by every life he touched.

As a member of the Blue Knights for over 20 years, I knew Al for almost as long. He was the only guy I knew that one moment you would be in the most heated of arguments, ( more like a debate) and the next he'd extend his hand with a cold one for you and put his arm around your shoulder and tell you a joke. He loved to play the devils advocate. I think he would take a side just for the sake of the argument.
I am thankful I had a chance to see him not too long ago. he was working at the bank and what should have been a two minute trip for me, turned into two hours as we talked and reminisced about rides and events.
Till we meet again my friend!

Rest in peace Al. Although I only worked with you a short time in 1970 or 71, it set the tone for the rest of my career. I learned so much from you in a short period of time. I respected you and thought all police officers should be like you. It is unfair that you left us so soon. God Bless you and your family.

I met Al at the AMA Fall Colors tour in 1999. The tour director had Al and I room together. Maybe that was to protect the other participants. Al and I had a great time there, got lost in the Blue Ridge Mountains together nearly every day. We rode way too fast and had a great time. He introduced me to the HSTA and we got together for a few more rides. Al, some day we will meet to ride again.
Maureen, Val, Linda, A.J., when Al and I weren't riding we talked about the best part of our lives- our families. He loves you all very much.

Dear Maureen,
I was so sorry to hear of Al's passing. We have been friends for almost 50 years. From grammar school at St Francis Borgia to high school, working at Wieboldts, cruising at Bon Bons, Skips, the girls week in Lake Geneva, meeting the loves of our lives, our weddings, babies, the death of our parents, our babies weddings, baby showers, becoming grandmas and now the death of your loving husband, Al. It is so hard to imagine.
I'll remember his big smile at his daughters wedding, so proud of his girls. I'm sending you a big hug and wish we could be there for you and the girls at this most difficult time. Our prayers are with you and the family.

Gosh, where do I begin? So many mentions on this guestbook to Al's booming voice, and it made me smile and flashback to my childhood - growing up with Val, Linda and AJ. The memories of the Memorial Day weekend trips to Kentucky, Jim Beam, Bowling Green, Poker Runs... the summers we spent in the camper and the swimming pool, the rides on the motorcycle, the good times, too many to write about now. Those memories that will never be forgotten or replaced.... You've always treated me as one of the family, and I will never forget that. I never had a father to do these things with and I hope that I had a chance to tell you, "thank you." You were like a second father to me, and you will be missed by so many. I know you look down on us all now, smiling and free from the pain that bound you here. You are looking over your children and grandchildren, your legacy and they will always feel your presence near, guiding and watching over them. Much Love, Marta

Dear Val, Linda, and AJ,
I truly am sorry for your loss. If you need anything...a friendly voice, a cup of coffee, or anything, please feel free to let me know. Your dad was a great man with many stories! I remember him telling me about his motorcycle rides and how many really nice places he visited. I wish you all the best and hope you know that I understand your loss! Hope this message finds you all well!

I met Al a couple of years ago at the HSTA's BS Rally in Missouri. We did the chit chat thing for a while & then we ran off to some hole-in-the-wall Al knew about where we had live entertainment and very nice juicy steaks. We had a great time. I have never met a more personable and likable guy.

Maureen, Linda, Val, Alana; and extended family; spouses and grandkids;
We are deeply sorry for your loss. We have enjoyed Al's smiling face and fun laughter for almost 14 years since Linda started dating our son, Robert. For years he would boast about one or another of his motorcycles or extensive trips, we had fun listening to his fun accounts of those trips. Then John got a Harley and you can guess Al's fun taunting and a real instant commradrie between "the inlaws"... We never got to ride with him though.
I hope everyone keeps his memory alive for those wonderful grandkids. There are many stories to tell them about.
Our love and hugs to everyone.

I met Al on the first HSTA motorcycle rally I attended in Taos, NM in 1998. Him and one of his daughters was camping in the next camp site. He loved to ride and talk motorcycles and I have since over the years spent many an evening after a a good day of riding at a rally enjoying a drink and conversation. He will be missed.

Tom & I rode with Al on many long distance trips and many Sunday rides. Al was a long time member of DGRR and NITRO and he was an active participatant. Al was enthusiatic about motorcycling - he was quite the rider, being able to ride at extreme speed while doing many other things, talking, pointing etc.
He was a gentleman and a scholar, but we will always remember him as the Chicken Bones guy.
Rest easy Al and ride hard!
Maureen and Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Al and I go back, all the way back to grade school, Al is one of my oldest friends .He was a very smart student, I was always jealous of that. I remember walking home from school with he him, talking about cars, We shared the same interests .A year or two later, He pulls up in front of my house with his first car, a 1958 Chevy Impala. And me still on my bike. Ouch! Of course I was his cruise partner for life. We use to go out every Friday night Cruzin' to "Skips Fiesta" in his 63' Corvette. He never lost a race.
We both worked on the "Shoot-the Chutes" at Riverview Park back in the early 60s. We both were "boatmen/Elevator operators" . We had a Great time together.
Then we kind of went our seperate ways, Military, Marriage raising a family , All I know is, Al was a "Great Guy" He had a great sense of humor. It was easy liking him. I'll always remember the good times we had together. I'll miss him.

Al Rogers had the biggest voice in the HSTA (formerly Honda Sport Touring Association).
By biggest, I mean he could be heard a mile away. A bull-horn.
He often wore self-strung (hippy) beads around his neck.
And a thick stock of black (long) hair was reminiscent of beat poets or concert painists.
He was also one of the few motorcyclists I ever knew who could light and smoke a cigarette on a sportbike, using a flip-up helmet to maintain his safety gear intact.
Al Rogers rode a motorcycle as if in a couples dance competition.
Complete harmony with machine. Although I did notice he changed partners often. Every season a new/used bike, typically bought for a song.
I'm sorry I'll be out of town this weekend, but I'm sure he will be
visited by many.

Dear Maureen, After your call I sat down and cried. Al and I bonded like no other friend that I have ever had. I will miss him the rest of my life.I haven't met another guy that loved riding as much as I do until he walked into the men's bathroom at a bike rally in Gettysburg,Pa. and asked me " how come you have a girl's name" and that was the beginning. What a guy, I loved him like my brother. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
