Gene Davis Obituary

Gene C. Davis, a longtime lawyer and resident of Chicago, died on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004. Since 1988 he had resided in Lake Forest, IL and in Naples, FL for extended periods. Born in Chicago, he graduated from the University of Chicago in 1938 where he studied law and later received his J.D. Degree from Chicago Kent College of Law. During his 35 year career at the law firm of Isham, Lincoln & Beale, he was an Associate, Partner and member of the Executive Committee. He was a member of the American, Illinois, Chicago and McHenry County Bar Associations, as well as a member of The Law Club of Chicago, a fellow in The American College of Probate Counsel and a member and President of The Legal Club of Chicago. He was the author of numerous articles and commentaries on various legal subjects including the University of Michigan Law School's ''Estate Planning-A Client's Handbook.'' He was the author of and performer in The Chicago Bar Association Christmas Spirits Show for many years and composer, orchestrator, arranger and conductor of concert bands, vocal groups and jazz organizations. He was a vocalist and brass instrumentalist and a longtime member of the Naples Concert Band. During the Second World War he served in the United States Army with the Air Corps and the Counterintelligence Corps. He had been a member of The Onwentsia Club, The Racquet Club of Chicago, The Saddle & Cycle Club, The Union League Club, The Mid-Day Club, The Camp Fire Club, The Great Lakes Dredge & Philharmonic Society, The Moorings Country Club of Naples, FL and other social organizations. He had been a trustee and Governing Member of The Orchestral Association (The Chicago Symphony Orchestra). He was listed in Who's Who in America and in Who's Who in The World. He is survived by his wife, Roberta; a brother, Myron; a son, Bruce; a daughter, Barbara; two grandsons, Robert and William Gage; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Kelsey.
