Pamela Kahn

Hi Tom and Bonnie,
This is Pamela, the daughter of your mom´s old friend, Rita Mardell Kahn. I just tried calling your mom and got a discontinued message. I googled her name and just learned of devastating loss. Since I lost my mom three years ago, I had been calling your mom 2-3 times a year. She shared so many memories of our mom´s when they were young; she was so comforting to talk with! I already miss your sweet mom.
Best wishes,
Pamela Kahn

What Hope used to play on the piano was "Pale hands I loved, beside the Shalimar." You can still find the lyrics to this song on the Internet. She also played the viola in our Hyde Park High School orchestra.
Hope's mother was very strict and would have had a tizzy at her secretarial business if she knew that the apartment she occupied with Hope's "Uncle Harry" (her mother's 2nd husband) was the meeting place after school for several of Hope's friends. I was there with the others and remember that we played "Spin the Bottle," although I don't recall that any of us ever got kissed.
About the same time, I went to "Y" camp one summer, and so did Hope. We were roommates there, as well as years afterward in New York. I wrote a story (all true) about our being roommates in New York. I'm a published poet but have never submitted that story for possible publication. I think it's too private.

I have worked for Hope for many years working in her apartment. She has always been such a nice lady to work for she will be missed.

Hope was a friend of mine in 8th grade and thereafter for many years. She visited me at the University of Illinois and later went there. When we got out of college, Hope was my roommate in New York. We stayed in touch until Bonnie phoned me to tell me Hope had passed. I miss Hope and think of her every day. Hope was warm, intelligent, and highly ethical. She was everything a woman should be.
