John C. Cutler, age 82, died peacefully March 8, 2013 in Evanston Hospital. A 49-year resident of Wilmette, IL, he is survived by his wife of 55 years and sailing buddy Marilyn (nee Handke) and his feisty five-year old Airedale terrier Harry Potter. Also survived by seven first cousins. Graduate of Dartmouth College, BA, Class of 1952. Lieutenant, USNR, Amphibious Force in the Western Pacific 1953-1956. Trained and commissioned at the US Naval Officer Candidate School, Newport, RI. During the Korean War participated in the evacuation from French Indochina of nationals and expatriates. Subsequently was graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology's Chicago Kent College of Law, JD, 1959. Practiced corporation, banking, and business law in Chicago with CNA Financial and First National Bank of Chicago (now Chase). Raced one-design sailboats on Lake Michigan for 15 years, then took time out for 37 years to enjoy his cruising sailboats. Served as Commodore of Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club, 1966-1967. Served as Commodore of the Chicago Yachting Association, 1968. Was a 45-year member of Chicago Yacht Club. General chairman of Chicago Venetian Night Parade of Boats, 1973-1998. At John's request, no service or visitation will be held. Private interment at Graceland Cemetery, Chicago. Memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Evanston Hospital, 2650 Ridge, Evanston, IL 60201 or St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1509 Ridge Ave, Evanston, IL 60201.
