Joon Suk Yu

Joon Suk Yu, M.D., was a devoted husband and loving father of three. Dr. Yu died of cancer on Monday, May 15, 2006 after an eight year battle. Born in 1934 in Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Yu immigrated to Chicago in 1961 after graduating from Seoul National University's Medical School. He began his internship at the Methodist Hospital in Peoria, began a patholgy residency at the Grant Hospital in 1964 and then completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital. Dr Yu dedicated his entire career to the practice of Anesthesiology at the Little Company of Mary Hospital where he served as its department chair from 1980 to 1982. He met his wife of 40 years, Dai Gill Kim in Chicago and they were married in 1966. They lived in Palos Park for the last 28 years. He is also survived by his daughter Grace (Nikos) their two children, Lukas and Elektra; son, William (Jennifer); and his youngest son, Raymond. Dr. Yu was an avid reader of Philosophy, Politicis and Religion, a dedicated Cubs fan and an enthusiastic golfer. He often spent time with his medical school classmates and their families. A wake will be held in his honor on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at Korean United Methodist Church, 19320 Kedzie Ave., Flossmoor, IL. Visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. with services at 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Smith Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N.
