Joseph Sheehan Obituary

February 5, 1963 - March 28, 2022

Joe Sheehan, 59, of Chicago, Illinois passed away at his home on Monday, March 28, 2022. Joe was born February 5, 1963 to Bob and Mary Kay Sheehan, the sixth of seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved uncle, John Cleary, cousins Jackie and Brian and recently by his beloved sister Lynne. Joe is survived by his four brothers and one sister and their spouses and children - Bob (Gail), Dan (Kim), Mike (Pam, Caelin, Clayton), Mary Anne (Bridget), and Pat (Jen), as well as his niece Cleary and her family. Joe attended Chicago public elementary schools and also attended Bogan and Brother Rice high schools, receiving his GED shortly afterwards in the early 1980s. Joe lived in Chicago his whole life and retired from the Chicago Public Schools after 26 years as a Custodian in 2015. Joe was an avid Civil War buff, having read and collected hundreds of books and mementos about the war. He loved to talk about all the battles, details and facts of the war, and will be well remembered for reciting his original Civil War poetry and entertaining his nieces and nephew during family gatherings. Joe was also a devoted cat lover, having owned cats his entire life, including Venus and Kitty at the time of his passing. Joe was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as an adult and struggled with the disease his entire life. He was raised as a Roman Catholic and remained so as an adult. Joe had a big personality that could fill a room. Joe will always be near and dear to his family and will be greatly missed. We love you Joe, and may you Rest in Peace.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date for his family and close friends.

I went to Rosenwald & Carroll with Joe from kindergarten to eighth grade. I lost track of him at Bogan. I´m so sorry for your loss. Too young.

Haven't seen Joe in 20 years after moving out of state. A friend of my younger days who can't be forgotten with the personality he owned. Plenty of fun memories. He sure had a unique way of looking at things. You can never forget Joe.
