Lydia Polek

Lydia Polek, a long time resident of the Lake Geneva, WI area and formerly of Evergreen Park and Oak Brook, IL, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at Golden Years Retirement Village in Walworth, WI. Mrs. Polek was born in Chicago to Ben and Josephine Bohac. Mr. Bohac was the founder of Talman Federal Savings and Loan Association. She married Bernard Polek, also of Chicago, in 1941. Mr. Polek was president of Talman from 1961 through 1974. As a resident of Evergreen Park, Mrs. Polek was active in the Altar and Rosary Society of Holy Redeemer Parish and was also involved with the Brother Rice and Mother McAuley High School Mother's Clubs. At Lake Geneva, she was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she helped count the Sunday collections in addition to volunteering with the Meals on Wheels program. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing twice a week up to the time of her passing. Mrs. Polek was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Helen and in 1989 her beloved husband Bernard. She is survived by her four children; John (Carol) of Atlanta, GA, Jerry (Samantha) of Lake Geneva, WI, Barbara (Thomas) Kwiatkowski of Lake Geneva, WI, and Thomas (Marjan) of Mesa, AZ, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. As per her wishes a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Angel Fund at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic School, 148 Main St., Lake Geneva, WI 53147.
