She was predeceased by her two sisters, Eleanor Tench and Evelyn Schoeneck; and a brother, Warren Rutledge. Mrs. Houck devoted her time, talent and resources for over seven decades to the Oak Park-River Forest community. Her major areas of focus were health, education, culture and religion. A dedicated volunteer at West Suburban Hospital, in 1962 she joined the auxiliary board. In 1981 she became the first woman ever elected to the hospital board of trustees, and in 1984 was designated a life trustee. Mrs. Houck was instrumental in the creation of the hospital's Pastoral Care Center, including a meditation room, as well as the Irvin and Margaret Houck Family Birthing Center in 1988. Mrs. Houck served on the board of directors of many community organizations including the Community Nursing Service and the Oak Park-River Forest Symphony Orchestra. Dear Houck Children, I was saddened to hear of your mother's recent passing. As neighbors at 221/225 N. Kenilworth, I was lucky enough to speak with her on several occasions during our holiday parties. I will always remember what a lady she was and her true interest in our daughter and others. What a wonderful example and memory she has left all of us. Your family is in our thoughts during this time. Sincerely, Michael, Lynne and Brooke Rodman

Marge Houck was an extraordinary gift to her community and to all who cared about its people. Her generosity was simply an extension of her person. It was my privilege to call her friend of Concordia University and of my wife and me.

Aunt Marge's obituary illustrates why she was my vision of the ideal, stellar woman. I loved her so much; she taught me countless, useful things. I used to love being mistaken as her daughter because of having her coloring! I feel that having been her niece is a great privilege and casts a special glow on me. What a beautiful legacy of service to the family of man! What energy she gave selflessly to others! God's blessings to all as you mourn and as you celebrate her life! Affectionately, Judy

If ever there was a description of a real lady it would be Marge Houck. I had the honor of meeting her as a Director of the bank where I worked and through the years in many other areas of charitable organizations. What a wonderful person and what a wonderful life she led.

Peggy--Was saddened to learn of your mother's death--but what an incredible life she had! My own mother also lived to see her 100th! How fortunate we are to have been able to witness such lengthy and productive lives. You and your family have my deepest sympathy!

I have fond memories of my association with Marge while I was a resident of the Kenilworth Terrace Condominiun in Oak Park prior to my departure to Florida in 1993.
