Ralph Melcher Springer, 92, died Jan. 22, 2007, beloved husband of Anne, nee Serson, for 56 years; dear father of Mary Ann (Scott) Hillstrom and Cathy (Richard) Springer Brown; proud grandfather of Laura, Thomas and Peter Hillstrom. Mr. Springer was preceded in death by his mother and father, Frank and Gertrude Springer and his brother, Frank C. Springer, Jr. Mr. Springer graduated from Bowen High School in 1934 and attended the University of Chicago, School of Business. He was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. From 1941-45, Mr. Springer served in the United States Army, 90th Division under General George Patton. He fought in the landing of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr Springer also served in the Army Reserves for 27 years attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Springer was employed by Midwest Jobbers, Inc., for over 40 years, serving as Vice President and Treasurer. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Home, or the charity of your choice. Hallowell & James Funeral Home, in Downers Grove assisting the family.
