Robert Wintz

Robert "Bob" Wintz, long time resident of Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills died peacefully on February 22, 2015 at the young age of 86. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Elizabeth ( "Betty"). He was the proud father of daughters Cheryl McCarthy (Jim), and the late Lynn Kotsiantos (George). His six grandchildren meant the world to him: Triplets Margy, Meghan and Mary Kate McCarthy, and John, Nick and Alexis Kotsiantos. Bob graduated from Oak Park High School, and Colorado State University. Bob was a Lieutenant in the Navy, and served aboard the USS Hancock in San Diego. He retired as Executive Director of the Chicago Horticultural Society after playing an integral role in the beginnings of The Chicago Flower and Garden Show at McCormick Place and the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe. Bob was also a founding member of the Christ Church of Oak Brook. Since 1968, Bob and Betty have been the proud owners of the Elite Repeat Shop in Westmont. His latest passion in life, other than gardening, George Strait music, and enjoying wine on the many patios, was his love of ballroom dancing with Betty. Whether you called him Robert or Bob, the Ogre, the Candyman, or Cash Register Bob, he was a great friend to all. His passion for life and devotion to family will sorely be missed by all those that knew him. Instead of services, a Celebration of Life Party will be held on the patio once the flowers are in full bloom. Date and details to follow soon.
