Thomas Mark Doane

Thomas Mark Doane, 73, of Oak Park, IL passed away on November 1st, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Maura (Carey) and sister Maura Doane Jacobs (Dale) and brother Robert Doane Jr. (Lori). He is survived by his siblings Margaret Levatino (William), Cate Doane (Craig Duvall), Mary Jo Doane, Roberta Cahill (Kyran), and James Doane (Karen). He was born in Wisconsin and grew up in Wood Dale IL making him both a Bears and Packers fan, and as an Irish-Catholic altar boy, a Fighting Irish fan. Also, he was a lifelong follower of Formula 1 auto racing. He attended Holy Ghost School and Fenton High School. He then served in the United States Marine Corps and received a Purple Heart after being wounded in Vietnam as well as several other commendations. Later, he graduated from DePaul University and worked in computer operations and programming. He is beloved as a "great" uncle and a "great"-great uncle by a horde of nieces and nephews, who knew him for his ability to flip them off his shoulders. He loved ballroom and was a fabulous dancer and an amateur competitor. Tom was also a certified private pilot. His interests included geology and astronomy and was thrilled to be in Idaho for the total eclipse of 2017. He was happiest when hiking the mountains and deserts of the American West including the Cascades, Glacier National, and Death Valley and wished to see the Earth made healthier again. Tom will be missed for his quiet humor, non-judgmental demeanor, and intelligent insights and for being the best dancer on the floor. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home, 6250 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Service at 12:00 noon. Interment will be private at Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery, in Cary, IL. In lieu of flowers, plan a trip, hike a trail, do a little dance, and make a donation to The Sierra Club.
