Opal Brown Obituary

Opal L. Brown

WAVERLY: Opal L. Brown, age 91, of E. Fourth Street Waverly, died 5:50 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Traditions at Bristol Village. She was born November 24, 1919 in Stockdale, Ohio, a daughter of the late Elijah and Grace Robinson Jackson.

On August 2, 1946 she was united in marriage to Charles C. Brown who preceded her in death March 5, 1985. She is survived by two daughters, Linda K. Brown, and Susan (John) Huffman, both of Waverly; two grandchildren, John Huffman, III of Columbus, OH, and Brittany Huffman of Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Grace R. (Eugene) Knoder of Longmont, CO; one brother, Dr. William T. Jackson of Tampa, Florida; and one sister-in-law, Lillian B. Harper of Piketon, OH. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jay Jackson.

Opal retired from Waverly City Schools with thirty-five years of service. She was a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher. She was a graduate of Morehead Teachers College, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority, Charter member of the Waverly Study Club, and a member of the Pike County Retired Teachers Association.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Waverly Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Vernagaye Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery in Piketon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Botkin Funeral Home in Waverly.
