EARL D. MORTENSEN SR. Earl D. Mortensen Sr., 87, passed away peacefully in Sarasota, Fla. on June 14, 2023. He was formerly of Dundee and Penn Yan, N.Y. He was born on May 15, 1936, in Penn Yan to Karl and Velda Mortensen. Earl graduated from Penn Yan Academy and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served honorably. After completing his service, Earl returned home and worked as a Sheriff Deputy for Yates County before serving as Chief of Police for Dundee Police Department. Earl was a life member of Dundee Masonic Lodge #123 and a member of Sarasota American Legion. Earl is survived by his wife Sarah; seven children including sons Earl Thomas, Brian, Earl Duane, and Christian Eric; daughters Dorothy, Cheri, and Heather; brother Karl; sisters Kay and Ruthie; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Aaron and sister Barb. Friends may pay their respects at Weldon Funeral Home located at 102 E. Main Street in Penn Yan on Friday, July 14 from 4 - 6 p.m. followed by a Masonic service and funeral at 6 p.m. The committal service along with military honors will be held on Saturday, July 15 at Glen View Cemetery in Pulteney, N.Y.
